In an instant—everything changed.
The story I want to tell you about happened while I was teaching at a private high school several years back and that was after choosing to leave a secure administration position at another school. I did that for two reasons: 1) I missed the classroom, and the interaction with the students, and 2) I wanted to have the free time during the summer to project my own business to greater growth and success.
The thing I didn’t count on was a quickly crashing economy. That cycle of financial disruption didn’t hurt everyone but it certainly hurt this school. Several of the parents lost there jobs and when that happens in a private school, well…students have to drop out. That led to a quick snowball effect where several teachers had to be sadly dismissed. Being a newbie, I was one of those unlucky teachers. What made it even worse was this school, being a Christian non-profit, was not required to pay into unemployment. So guess what…I couldn’t get any.
One more thing that is important to note is that I was less than one year into my post-divorced life. Yep…this was as bad season for me. Here I was newly divorced, laid off from my full-time job, unable to apply for unemployment, without health insurance as a diabetic and I couldn’t find work in the down economy.
I was angry. I was frustrated. I was lost.
I wasn’t done. I had purpose. I had gifts. I had tools. I had support from family. I had faith in God.
I had me!
I will tell you honestly those days were probably the hardest of my entire life. Many days I awoke with some despair. But I can honestly say…I never stop believing in me.
There were days I asked myself: Will I survive this?
I did. I can truly tell you that the man I am today has the most joy, love, and excitement for life that I’ve ever had.
Please don’t give up! Even when dark days come…and they will…don’t give up. Believe in yourself. Believe in God if you are a Christian like me. Believe you have purpose.
Never give up!!! Never give up!!! Never give up!!!
And one more thing…YOU have ME. I am here to cheer you on. I am hear to teach you some of the lessons I have learned. I am here to hold you accountable to your dreams, goals, and future self.
Let’s do this!
Blessings, my friend,
